BlueVoyant Empowers Next Generation of the STEM Workforce for the Fourth Consecutive Year

August 1, 2024

BALTIMORE, August 1, 2024 - BlueVoyant, a cybersecurity company that offers an AI-powered cyber defense platform, is honored to team up with the Transforming Lives Community Development Corporation (TLCDC) for the fourth consecutive year to deliver new career opportunities to budding professionals in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). Working with STEMcx, the education arm of TLCDC, BlueVoyant is proudly helping expose students from underrepresented areas to STEM fields.

Careers in STEM are often lucrative and in high demand, however, African American workers make up only 9% of the STEM workforce in the US, according to STEMcx. Additionally, there has been no change in their share of STEM jobs since 2016. Talent pool or a better-world building programs like this one, created by STEMcx and its partners, are hoping to change that.

On August 10 from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. ET at the New Psalmist Baptist Church, 6020 Marian Drive, Baltimore, Maryland 21215, 47 high school students from underrepresented areas will display coding projects, engineering projects, rocketry projects and research posters in healthcare, architecture, and environmental justice as a culmination to an 8-week paid summer internship hosted by STEMcx and its partners.

Some of these students were selected for hands-on coding internships with BlueVoyant. At the event, they will be showcasing their coding projects, coached by BlueVoyant mentors.

“At BlueVoyant, we are committed to fostering diversity through programs that not only raise awareness but also provide tangible opportunities and resources for underrepresented groups in STEM,” said Sangya Sharma, chief diversity officer and chief human resource officer at BlueVoyant. “By teaming up with STEMcx for four years, we are actively working to create a more inclusive tech community, and to drive meaningful change."

Additional sponsors of the internships include Simons Foundation, Baltimore Gas and Electric, Annie Casey Foundation, Whiting TurnerMaryland Space Grant Consortia, University of Maryland Medical System Foundation, Amtrak, and Microsoft.

Special guests include Maryland State Senator Jill Carter, Dr. Debra Brooks, Executive Director of the Mayor's Office of Children and Family Success, and Lt. Governor Aruna Miller.
